Milan Fashion Week,: Bottega Veneta Celebrates and a Rising Star Shines

Tomas Maier has been the creative director at Bottega Veneta for 15 years, so the fashion house is planning a major celebration Saturday. The spring 2017 show will be held at the spectacular Accademia di Brera (rather than at the company headquarters on the outskirts of Milan), and later there will be a star-studded dinner to celebrate.

No fashion season would be complete without at least one amfAR gala, filled with designers, supermodels and charming multimillionaires willing to open their wallets. Saturday night, Harry Winston, the jeweler, will be underwriting the annual Milano black-tie event, which this year honors Lapo Elkann, the Italian entrepreneur, for his ongoing support of AIDS research. Expect a live auction, plenty of prosecco and a performance by the British pop star Charli XCX.

Stella Jean, the Haitian-Italian designer, is a rising star of the local fashion scene, thanks to her punchy palettes and bold ethnic prints. Although she has no formal training, Ms. Jean has powerful fans, like Giorgio Armani, among Italy’s traditionally conservative design old guard. With her use of sustainably sourced fabrics, aimed at helping trade workers in developing communities (a hot topic for all of the major luxury players), her future is looking increasingly bright.
